In summary, the Virginia Insurance Agent Program provides you with access to top rated, insurance carriers without a large upfront fee or ongoing perpetual fees. Smart Choice shares a commission split up to a cap each year; after the cap is reached, the agent receives 100% of commissions over the cap. It is important to understand that with the large national production volume of over 6400 agents, our Smart Choice Carrier and Wholesale partners generally pay TOP TIER commissions. The result is more net commissions to Smart Choice agents — from the Base and Contingency Sharing commissions to additional bonuses and incentives.

AGENTS PROGRAM The Smart Choice Agents Program (Sub-Code Direct Appointments) allows agents to obtain appointments with some of the top-rated Personal and Commercial Lines carriers in the industry, with limited premium commitments through sub-codes with Smart Choice. Mostly Top Tier Commissions are split 70/30 with Smart Choice (Agent gets 70%) up to an annual Commission CAP, then agent receives 100%. Sub-Code Direct Appointments are the pathway to the primary agency goal of Leadership Agency Status with enhanced earnings and benefits. Although the carriers make the appointment decision, Smart Choice Territory Managers and State Directors work closely with carriers and assist agencies in the appointment process. Daniel Brown, Territory Manager
Daniel is a Smart Choice Virginia territory manager in northern Virginia. He has extensive experience in sales training, management, and operations development. Daniel’s insurance career began in 2012 as an agent in Roger Gill’s agency. Working under the guidance of Roger, his focus is on agency development beginning with on-boarding all Smart Choice Virginia agents.
Kerry Belcher, Territory Manager and Director of Life & Financial 
Our Virginia Smart Choice Team is please to announce that as of March 1, 2023, Kerry G. Belcher will be serving our VA & DC Agents as Director of Life & Financial Services. Kerry has decades of personal and commercial insurance experience, including Life and Financial Services. In addition to his role as a Territory Manager–which includes the provision of a comprehensive Agency Development Program, Kerry brings great opportunities for Smart Choice Virginia Agents to better serve their clients by offering a comprehensive Life and Financial Services program. Roger Gill, State Director
Roger has over 27 years of insurance agency management experience. He began his insurance career in 1997 as an associate agent with Nationwide before starting his own independent agency, The Insurance Advisor, in 2012. After assuming the State Director role for Smart Choice Virginia in 2018, premium has grown over 300% surpassing $23 million and commissions have grown 750% to over 3 million under his leadership.
